The Sugar Loaf Fire Protection District has an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating of 6 throughout the entire District. The Insurance Services Organization rates the ability of fire departments to protect property from fire based on many factors, including the equipment, water supplies and personnel in a department's district. This rating is used by some insurance companies as a base for homeowner's insurance. An ISO rating of 10 is the worst, where no fire protection is available, while a rating of 1 is the best. Typically districts in this area without a fire hydrant system have an ISO rating of 8 or higher. While the SLFPD is not served by a water supply system, our ISO rating was achieved by demonstrating that with our tanker shuttle capabilities, we are able to sustain a flow of 250 gallons per minute for a minimum of 2 hours.
